I saw this post on Facebook this morning and I just had to share. So often we feel hopeless. So often we’ve just got nothing left. The battles are brutal, and when you’re a writer, your hearts gets assaulted that much more. After all, YOU carry the words of life. And I’m not talking religious here.
There’s never just a “just” with what we do. Our stories entertain and give hope. Never discount doing that. No matter what you write, when someone goes into your book, they are finding relief. And it doesn’t matter what genre you write!
So often I’ve been rescued by fiction.
So often I’ve been hopeless and then I picked up a novel.
You are the firefighters of the soul.
To that person who sits in the hospital waiting room, terrified. They open your book just to escape. It eases the panic and fear for a while.
That woman or man stuck in abuse who doesn’t know how to get out . . . They open your book to find the strength (or momentary relief) so they can. They journey with you through your story and you help them through an impossible situation.
To that person who’s suffered unimaginable horrors, they come to your horror novel to find themselves brave once again. Every time they read your words, they feel a little stronger. When they fight your monsters, they start to believe they can fight their own.
To that person who’s buried in the mystery, they come to your mystery novel to put together the clues of their life. Oddly, when they read your pages it seems as if they can.
And this happens over and over again.
You have a purpose.
You are a unique expression of God and His fingerprint is within you. You reflect His heart in ways that no one else can. And this applies even if you wouldn’t call yourself a believer. Your humor is amazing. Your creativity is so unique. You get downloads and insights that others don’t.
There is something that needs to be released on the Earth through you. It might be a breakthrough in science or medicine. It might be that life-sustaining word you give to a friend . . .
Every day you are important. Every day your actions matter. The light within you is more powerful than you can imagine. <3
